Michel Deboeck was born in 1955 and is a Belgian citizen. Michel studied at the Universities of Brussels and Cambridge and holds a PhD degree in Occupational Psychology. He is a chartered psychologist of the British Psychological Society.
He started his career in 1982 as a management trainee at ING where he acquired a generalist experience in several human resources positions. After seven years he joined Rohrer, Hibler and Replogle, a Chicago based consulting company, where he carried out assignments in the area of executive assessments, organisation studies, and mergers or acquisitions. He was then asked to become Training & Development Manager EMEA at AT&T. As a next career step he became Director of Organisation and Human Resource Management at Coopers & Lybrand.
In 1994, he became one of the founding partners of Acker Deboeck and Company (ADC) based in London. The expertise of ADC was centered on organisational change, executive assessments, assisting organisations in the process of mergers and acquisitions, management audits and designing Human Resource Management strategies.
In 2002, Michel Deboeck joined Fortis (currently BNP Paribas Fortis) as Chief Human Resources Officer. Apart from his role as CHRO, he was also a Member of the BNP Paribas Fortis Executive Committee. Michel Deboeck has been deeply involved in the aborted merger process of Fortis and ABN AMRO together with the consortium partners Santander and RBS. He played a key role in the integration process with BNP Paribas. Michel was elected HR manager of the year, and was in this role a member of the HR Top 50 and the HR Roundtable Group.
After the integration of Fortis in BNP Paribas, Michel decided to re-launch his consulting activities in 2010.
